Everyone let's give a big HELL YEAH to it being the weekend!
So, last night I had BIG plans. Big plans of parking my rear end on the couch for about 5 hours. I needed a nap and then I wanted to watch My Generation, Grey's and Private Practice. Mikey was cooking dinner (thankful for a husband who loves to cook, he cooks, I clean...perfect set up!) out of our Cooking Light: Fresh Food Fast book, (more on that in a minute) and I was being a couch potato. I'm generally not that lazy at night, but my Wednesday night wine time with the girls lasted a weeee bit longer than normal and I didn't get a whole lot of sleep. So anyways, dinner is cooking and I'm watching ET waiting on the new shows to begin. Between the hours of 7 and 8 we got a total of 6 phone calls from friends wanting us to come out. I kept trying to ignore them....couldn't they understand I was tired!?! Of course though, when we started talking about it, we caved. We can never turn down a night with friends via peer pressure! In all seriousness though, some of our favorite friends are getting married this weekend so lots of people were gathered for a few celebratory drinks and we just couldn't miss out. See why I'm not ready for little babies yet? I went from the couch to the bar in under 30 minutes. Anyways, the whole point of this long paragraph is to say that I watched about 15 minutes of My Generation and let's just say they had me at the "thong song." Seriously!?! That cracked me up and brought back so many memories of high school! I don't know if this show will be good or not, hard to judge after only 15 minutes, but regardless it is really cool if you are around that age. (FYI: it follows 10 people who graduated high school in 2000....from 2000 to 2010.) I graduated in 2001 from high school so it is VERY relevant to me. In disappointing news, I missed Grey's premiere. However, in exciting news...I watched it on my lunch break! Thank you DVR! It was good, not fabulous by any means...but good. Excited for the season.
Shows that I'll be tuning into this fall:
Brothers and Sisters, Grey's, Private Practice, My Generation (maybe, still TBD), Parenthood, Outlaw, The Event (another maybe, got to watch the first one still), Chase (again, another maybe...but I think the preview looked good.), Modern Family.... I think that's it for the moment. We will be missing 24 and Flashforward from last season! *Maybe this is a sign we need to start staying home more so we can keep up with all these shows!*
So, back to the Cooking Light: Fresh Food Fast cook book...it is FABULOUS. Mikey and I participated in a little "menu planning" for the first time this week and cooked 4 meals out of this book. They were all absolutely yummy and pretty simple. The whole point of the book is to give you recipes that don't require more than 5 or so ingredients and don't take long to cook. Perfect! I really like this whole "menu planning" thing; having fun, creative dinners to cook certainly makes eating at home more appealing to me. I am always so tempted to want to eat out! I would like to continue on this trend and cook something from this book 3 or 4 nights a week...and then have the other 3 or 4 nights a week for our standby meals and restaurants! Standby meals are so thoughtless and cheap. Our standbys include the following: grilled chicken with a veggie/rice/potato, grilled fish with the same, burgers and a veggie, spaghetti, tacos, etc.
And for fun....a birthday want! LOVE this beauty!
Tonight I am having a date night with my precious niece and my parents. Mikey's best friend from college is in town, so after a long day at work (I mean the golf course, damn him!) they are going to be hanging around the house doing boy things. I asked to keep my niece, so we are taking her to Monkey Joes's (a fun zone type place with inflatable slides, etc.) and dinner! I'm looking forward to spending some QT with that munchkin=)
Have a GREAT weekend! And...most importantly, GO COCKS!!! So wish we were going to Auburn this weekend for the game (ahem...wedding during football season! ha!). Just glad it is a night game since the wedding is at 2. Here's to hoping my ASS KICKING CHICKENS prevail!
