All the flooding had me out of whack all last week, it was a long, hard week, y’all. Even though I personally wasn’t impacted, it is still heart wrenching to watch the devastation that occurred to neighbors, friends, and our state. Praying that rebuilding can begin and for the families and business owners to start fresh.
Since I treat this blog as my personal scrapbook, I wanted to go back and document two weekends ago as well as this past weekend. This is the only place I have that I note everything our family does and I know I will appreciate it one day…even if it makes for boring reading;)
Friday October 2 was DATE night. We planned a big night out for my birthday and it was AMAZING. We picked the kids up right at 5 that afternoon so we could spend a few hours with them before we headed downtown. We took them to the mall for a little shopping, Chick a lay lay (as Colls says) and rides on the carousel! They loved it. It was the boys’ first time on the carousel. After that, we dropped them back off at our amazing caretaker’s house for the night, this was going to be the first spend the night party at Weezie and Bill’s and Collins was SO excited! *My parents were out of town and I really wanted the kids somewhere I didn’t have to worry at all so we could SLEEP in Saturday morning*
Then, Mikey and I headed downtown and checked in our hotel…yes, we rented a hotel room for the night. It was a treat, just something fun and different. We went to Bourbon for dinner, first time for both of us and it was amazing. The great flooding of 2015 was beginning that night…so we came back to the hotel for a nightcap after dinner. WE SLEPT TILL 9:30!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?!? It was THE best. Solid, uninterrupted sleep. Every parent needs this every once in a while. Then, the spoiling continued and we had a couples massage at OCCO at 10:30, pure heaven, friends. It was my birthday after all…but I let Mikey enjoy the birthday fun too:-) The absolute BEST massage in town. After that relaxation, we were more than ready to go pick up the kiddos. We ran a couple of errands while the rain was at bay for a bit and then headed home for the day to batten down the hatches, or so we thought. It really didn’t start raining hard till later that night, but unfortunately it POURED all night long. We ended up having a low key get together at our house that night to watch football. Fun times for all, especially the little princesses!
We debated rescheduling our dinner we had planned for Friday October 9 after the horrible week Columbia had, but we decided we all needed a little break from the heart ache…so we met up with our friends for a couple’s birthday celebration (yes, still celebrating my birthday!) Friday night. Too much fun…we had a curfew, (city imposed) so no one stayed out too late…but it was a nice little get together, and much needed.
And then, the worst thing happened…it RAINED ALL day long Saturday. NOT what we needed at all. A couple areas had to re-evacuate and more flooding ensued. UGH. Thankfully, nothing got out of control though. I spent the morning trying on bridesmaids dresses for my bestie’s upcoming nuptials…and then came home and played and napped with the family in the yucky weather. We hung out with neighbors Saturday night but were in bed by 10. Sunday was spent running errands, napping, and loving on the babies. Hope everyone survived the flood and happy Monday!
