eatin my *organic* fruits and veggies

Back from vacation and NOT happy about it!

After an *almost* full week at the beach...I am trying to DETOX a bit this week. Whew, we had the best time in Beaufort this past week with my family but I majorly over indulged....too much GORP and beer and not enough exercising! (GORP = good ole raisins and peanuts) Mikey gets such a kick out of this and always rags on us saying "the rest of America calls this trail mix." Well guess what, I don't care! My family and our "best family friends" who always went to the beach together have always called it GORP so that's what it will always be to me, and it is YUMMY. Of course, there is way more than just raisins and peanuts in there. We do raisins, cocktail peanuts, dry roasted peanuts, peanut m & m's and regular, butterscotch morsels, chex mix, pretzels, you name it!

So, last night I went to the grocery store and stocked up on fruits and veggies!! No bread or diet coke for me this week....trying to limit carbs, sodium, things that make me feel stuffed. I have been slowly trying to switch a lot of our food over to organic. Mikey thinks it is all a bunch of crap and blah blah blah, but I don't. I am not a doctor and I don't know all the facts, but I DO think that somehow in someway all of this crap we put into our bodies has changed us completely, i.e. more health problems these days, kids having more sicknesses at an early age, kids maturing at younger ages, etc. It is very expensive to go all organic, etc. so I am just trying to a bit at a time. I will never be all organic, and you will still see me enjoy some processed foods and definitely eating out...I am just trying to be more conscious of it when I can and if I can now, try and at least do a little something to better my body. Of course if someone else is doing the cooking or we are at a restaurant I am most certainly going to eat whatever, but in the meantime...while we are at home doing the cooking I am going to try and buy healthier items and LESS processed food.

I currently have switched to Springer Mountain Farms Chicken...it is more expensive if you are just buying the regular sized chicken breast, but they also package 6 individually that are smaller (only 4 ounces) and you can get 6 breasts for $10! I think they taste SO much better, Mikey would never admit it if they did, oh well! They are smaller, which he complains about...but honestly, I am pretty sure that is really the portion we are supposed to be eating. (Have you ever read "Eat this, not that," it says that the average piece of chicken has increased in size by 277% since 1971, DISGUSTING!) Anyways, I just fix more veggies or a salad to go with it and then he doesn't mind the smaller chicken size. You should really read their website...it's cheaper than Publix's "Greenwise" options and quite yummy! ALL chicken has to be steroid and pesticide free according to the FDA....but this chicken is also antibiotic free, chemical medicine free, and American Humane Chicken Certified. Doesn't it make you queasy to think about eating antibiotics that have been administered to a poor, sick animal? YUCK.

I have also been buying organic red meat when I can...there is one brand in particular that I like at Publix...they make an extra lean version and it is pretty good. I can't remember it now...I wish it weren't so expensive to do this. Though like my cousin says....(she does a lot of research on this stuff and eats completely organic) the amount of money we spend on food in 2010 is way lower than the amount of money we spend on health care, 50 years ago it was reverse. In other words, maybe food shouldn't be sooo cheap (well, good natural food...processed crap should be cheap).

I love fruit, pretty much all of it. I just bought a bunch of strawberries, cantaloupe and pineapple to make my own little fruit salad, delicious. I read in "Eat this, not that" that strawberries were one of the best fruits to buy organic because of the amount of pesticides that are sprayed on them. I had been complaining to my mom about the strawberries this year, I just couldn't seem to get tasty ones at the grocery store. I had some fresh picked off the farm in Beaufort that were amazing...but otherwise they just weren't that great. Well, last night the organic strawberries were on sale at Publix...and let me tell you, I about died! I can't even describe how freakin tasty these babies are. Seriously, I would pay twice the price just to have that taste...definitely going organic on that route now too.

The other main things that I have been buying organic now are my milk, eggs, lettuce and every once in a while veggies. My doctor told me one time that dairy was extremely important for women and that if you could, to go organic.

Anyways, who knows it this will really help or not! I just figure I might as well do everything I can to try and help my body be the healthiest it can when I am young.

What other yummy organic products am I missing?

2019 family Village Creek trip

Our 2019 summer family vacation was everything I could have asked for, and more!  This year, my parents and nephew joined us for the week so we had extra fun!  (and extra chaos of course, too!)  We did ALL the things, but yet also did ALL the relaxing.  We arrived on G and T's actual, bday so we started our trip with a special birthday lunch in downtown Beaufort with just the boys since Collins rode down with my mom.  We also finally experienced the drive in movie that night for Toy Story 4 and it was AWESOME!  We only had one day of cloudy weather so that was awesome!  We ventured to Bohicket Marina, Harbor Town, Harbor Island, Edisto Island, Botany Bay, our favorite sandbar AND downtown Beaufort by boat, we had a ball!   My dad got some AMAZING fireworks and we had a little show for the culdesac, so much fun!!  Mikey and I even got to sneak out one night for a date night, headed to our fav, Sal

My Pinterest inspired master bedroom makeover part one.

The BEFORE pictures. I've been itching to re-do my master bedroom for quite some time now. I am one of those people that likes to re decorate quite often...unfortunately for my bank account. Mikey's mom bought him a full queen sized bedroom suite when he graduated college, which was wonderful. It is very nice furniture and has served us well. But, I am SOOO sick of all the dark matchy-matchy look it brings. I will use this furniture again in a guest bedroom one day...but for now, it's time to retire it from my master. All of my bedding and rug I had previously...I've now had this zebra/brown/green theme for almost 4 years...so over it! Fortunately for us...my brother and SIL got a new bed...so what do we get?? Their old KING size bed!! Woohoo. I do NOT like for people to touch me when I sleep, I need my space...I've been wanting a king for so long. Even though our room isn't the biggest the king is working out okay...we aren't going to be in this h

These are the days.

Goodness gracious, I LOVE summer.  I talk it to death every year, but it is especially important to me during this season of life where the school year brings homework/schedules/strict bed times/extra curricular craziness- I appreciate the LAZY days of summer EVEN MORE. I've tried to be intentional about taking a half day here and there to soak up TIME with my babies.  Because Lord knows, they aren't babies for long.  (Yes, I'm referring to my 7 and 5 year olds as babies- #cantstopwontstop ) When we returned from our anniversary trip, we got back early on a Tuesday and used the rest of the day to spend quality family time together.  We took the kids to a local water park, this was all of our first time visiting- and we had a ball!   That same week, my girl and I dressed up and attended her very first company banquet for dance, too much fun!  Lake days with friends are sooooo good for me- we've so enjoyed many of them this summer
